Job description for MHADK Webmaster

The webmaster should be familiar with Adobe GoLive, Dreamweaver, or a similar program that facilitates both site design and maintenance. Some knowledge of Photoshop, Acrobat Professional and similar programs is also a prerequisite, as are the basics of implementing CSS design elements and Javascript. The webmaster should be capable of uploading and implementing CGI server-side software including applications in PHP, Perl etc. (the ability to write in those languages is not necessary). They should have some familiarity with MySQL or the equivalent. Finally, they need to be be familiar with routine website operations, including (should the eventualty arise) how to swiftly move a site to a new hosting company. (This has twice been necessary over the past eight years, once on an emergency basis.). Some very basic understanding of Unix/Linux (permissions, basic commands etc.) is useful and occasionally essential.

Routines

• 1. Alter the index page as required to reflect current news and events, including changing the jump menu.
• 2. Create PDF output of the Newsletter each quarter, and adding it to the existing archive.
• 3. Create PDF output of the outings list each quarter, and adding it to the existing archive.
• 4. Alter the Contacts page to reflect changes in officers, as that information is supplied.
• 5. Maintain as full and current a backup of the site as is feasible (this is critical).
• 6. Provide upload details to the Gallery to MHADK members, together with instructions on uploads.
• 7. Pages to be kept as current as possible based on board input, with mention of past events to removed in a reasonably timely fashion.
• 8. Webmaster should liaise with the board as circumstances require and be prepared to offer advice.
• 9. Monitor Google Analytics periodically to track site usage.

Customarily, time demands for this task are not too significant, on average a few hours a month. Adding applications, creating new pages etc. can take more time.
